Costa Rica Official Language
The Official language of Costa Rica is Spanish, spoken relatively slowly without a castilian slip.
Virtually all Costa Ricans working in the tourist industry speak English, as do most people in banking and other services.
However, for more traveling off the beaten track, a basic knowledge of Spanish is a distinct advantage.
The Maleku, Bribri, Cabecar, and Guaymi retain their traditional languages, but most of Costa Rica’s indigenous people also speak Spanish.
